DCI disclosed that the suspects were arrested on November 11. 

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed reports that it arrested two men in Mombasa for breaking into State House, Mombasa. 

In a statement on Monday, November 18, DCI clarified that the two suspects, Julius Muthomi, 20, and Pius Kang'ethe Maina, 29, were arrested for handling stolen goods.

The directorate maintained the suspects were arrested on November 11 within Mombasa CBD following a tip-off from the public.

"Contrary to some fake news doing rounds in the online space, two suspects - Julius Muthomi, 20, and Pius Kang'ethe Maina, 29 - were arrested on November 11, 2024, by the OCS Central Police Station, Mombasa, for the offence of handling suspected stolen properties.

"The two were arrested within Mombasa CBD following a tip-off from members of the public," DCI remarked.

The suspects were arrested for handling stolen goods.

According to the directorate, 51 mobile phones and other several items worth over Sh1.2 million were recovered in the operation that led to the arrest of the duo.

DCI maintained that the suspects were taken into police custody together with the recovered items and legal action was taken.

"In the operation conducted at Rio building along Digo Road, 51 mobile phones, several laptops among other items worth over Sh1.2 million were recovered. Both the exhibits and the two suspects were escorted to the station and legal action was taken," DCI explained.
