Marc Dillard takes over from Meg Whitman who resigned following Donald Trump's win in the US presidential election.

The new Charge d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Kenya Marc Dillard has committed to continue enhancing the partnership between the United States and Kenya.

In a video shared on Wednesday, November 27, he stated that he was honoured to be part of the team working with Kenya in enhancing areas such as security and economic growth.

"With the departure of our Ambassador, I am honored to step in as Chargé d'Affaires to continue advancing the strong partnership between the United States and Kenya. 

"It is a privilege to support this mission and our incredible team as we work side by side with Kenya in areas like security, economic growth, and health," he said.

Dillard, who has worked as Deputy Ambassador for the past two years. also mentioned that he was looking forward to interacting with different communities across the country.

"Over the past 2 years leaving and walking in Kenya, I have had the opportunity to see the impressive work done by our many friends and partners, and I look forward to traveling tomorrow communities across this rich and beautiful country," he added.

Before his role as Chargé d'Affaires, Dillard had a distinguished career in the U.S. Foreign Service since 1998. 

He served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Budapest from 2019 to 2022 and held various positions, including Director of Economic Policy Analysis and Public Diplomacy, and Political and Economic Counselor in Sofia, Bulgaria. 

Dillard also worked in multiple countries, such as Malawi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Japan, and Korea, and was a consultant and adjunct faculty member prior to joining the State Department.

This comes barely a week after the former US Ambassador Meg Whitman bid her final farewell to Kenyans in a video on the Embassy's social media pages.

In a video shared on Friday, November 22, the diplomat shared her working experience in the country, further thanking Kenyans for their welcoming spirit revealing that she had made many friends in the last two years.

"There are so many things that I will treasure about my time in Kenya. From the beautiful landscape to the dynamic economy. But most of all, I will remember the people of Kenya who welcomed me with unparalleled hospitality," she remarked.
