25 junctions will be improved including the installation of technological equipment for the management of traffic.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has announced that the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and Samsung have signed a deal for the implementation of Nairobi's Intelligent Transport System (ITS).

In a statement dated Wednesday, September 27, Chirchir announced that the deal will see the implementation of the first phase of the planned road project which targets 25 junctions in the city.

As part of the deal, various junctions will be improved even as technological equipment will installed for the management of traffic.

Among the systems to be installed on the actions include traffic signals, signal controllers, CCTV cameras, and above-ground detectors.

Variable Message Signs (VMS), Vehicle Enforcement Systems (VES), and Vehicle Detection Systems (VDS) will also be installed at various junctions.

"This phase includes the geometric improvement of 25 junctions," read the statement in part.

"The project involves detailed design and upgrades to the junction configurations to ensure they can adequately handle traffic demand. This comprehensive upgrade will greatly improve traffic flow and safety in our city."

Some of the junctions being targeted in the plan include Moi Avenue-Kenyatta Avenue, Koinange-Kenyatta Avenue and Mbagathi Way-Langata Road.

Further, the CS announced that the Traffic Management Centre would be constructed at Cabanas, Mombasa Road.

Construction works are expected to begin in March 2025.
