The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has opined that the presidential term limit should be scrapped.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday night, November 27, Atwoli claimed that the term limit is what is causing the nation problems.
The COTU boss remarked that politics has turned into an industry with daily discussions dominating the agenda.
“If you ask me, I will tell you let us remove the presidential term limit because that is what is causing us problems. Someone is timing after 10 years to be president. Are Ugandans experiencing the same problems we experience here?
"People have made politics an industry. Every morning to evening is politics because they know someone’s term is almost ending,” Atwoli remarked.

He further stated that some countries that are led by kings and monarchs, like in some parts of Europe, do not experience problems that Kenya faces because they respect their traditions.
Atwoli's remarks come after a Senate committee rejected a proposal to extend the term of the resident and other elected leaders from five to seven years.
The bill, which had been sponsored by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, had attracted a lot of opposition from many Kenyans and leaders.
Meanwhile, Atwoli recently called for a change in the constitution claiming that it is a stumbling block to President William Ruto and his administration.
The COTU boss noted that the president cannot execute some government agenda because of avenues in the constitution that give citizens powers to challenge government policies in court.
