"We want to call upon EACC to investigate those who procured illegality that led to the cancellation of the Adani deals."

Marakwet West MP Timothy Kichumba has asked the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) to launch investigations into government officials involved in the procurement of Adani deals.

Speaking on Thursday, November 28, the MP said the cancellation of the deals has embarrassed the government, further describing them as illegal.

"We want to call upon EACC to investigate those who procured illegality that led to the cancellation of the Adani deals. Action must be taken upon those who procured it, there must be accountability in this country. We can't just be doing things which at the end of it embarrass the president and the government," he said.

This comes days after Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi expressed dissatisfaction with President William Ruto's decision to cancel Adani Group's deal with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO).

Speaking in Parliament on Monday, November 25, the MP noted that the deal would have helped fix the issue of unstable electricity in the country including his constituency.

"In my region, we don't have stable electricity, the transmission lines are dead and now that we had these Adani people come to fix this problem, there was no need for the President to cancel, especially this for electricity transmission."

Ruto ordered the cancellation of the Adani-JKIA expansion deal as well as the Adani-Ketraco deal while issuing the State of the Nation Address in Parliament.

The president explained that the new orders were informed by new information regarding the integrity of the Indian company.

"I have stated in the past, and I reiterate today, that in the face of undisputed evidence or credible information on corruption, I will not hesitate to take decisive action. Accordingly, I now direct - in furtherance of the principles enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution on transparency and accountability, and based on new information provided by our investigative agencies and partner nations - that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction, as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line Public Private Partnership contract," he said
