"If Raila Odinga doesn’t want to do it, some of us will do it.”

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has disclosed that he will be running for the top seat in the country in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Monday, December 2, Havi noted that there has to be an alternative to President William Ruto, who is expected to seek re-election.

He explained that since Ruto's closest rival in the 2022 polls, Raila Odinga, is focused on the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position, he intends to run for the presidency.

“I will be running for president in 2027 because it is now evident that there ought to be an alternative to President William Ruto. You can see my cousins, Raila Odinga’s sons, are quite determined to ensure that he is centered at the continental level instead of coming here. If Raila doesn’t want to do it, some of us will do it,” Havi remarked.

The former LSK boss claimed that if he becomes president, he will serve the nation in accordance with the rule of law and the will of the people.

“And this is what I want to do when I become president. I want to serve in accordance with the constitution and the will of the people. And this is why the youthful Kenyans demand alternative leadership.

"You’ve seen it across in Senegal. They have elected a gentleman younger than I by about four years. So why not do it today? When we have youthful leaders with projections on what is good for Kenyans and the needs of youthful voters, then we plan for forth years,” Havi explained.

The former LSK president now joins a list of leaders who have set their sights on the presidency, including Wiper leader Kalonzao Musyoka, activist Morara Kebaso and Busia senator Okiya Omtatah, who has formed a committee to assess his viability.

Meanwhile, Havi contested the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election but was unsuccessful.
