The United States Embassy in Nairobi has flagged letters announcing a travel ban for top officials in the Kenya Kwanza government as fake.
Through its official X account on Monday, December 2, the Embassy called on Kenyans to ignore the letters as they did not emanate from any US agency.
Consequently, Kenyans were advised to avoid sharing the letters on social media platforms.
According to the fake letters, the ban was imposed on Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi and Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

The authors of the fake letter had claimed that the ban was imposed following Kenya's involvement with the Adani Group in the infrastructural improvement of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
"The U.S. Government. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in coordination with The US Embassy in Kenya herewith restricts the individuals named Oscar Kipchumba Sudi and Onsemus Kipchumba Markomen from entering The United States of America," read the fake letters in part.
Notably, even before the US responded, some Kenyans had questioned the authenticity of the letters given the numerous spelling mistakes.
Cautious online users also wondered why the letters had not been posted on the official sites of the US government departments.
