Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Azimio leader Raila Odinga to act in the best interest of the coalition party in the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking to the press on Monday, December 9, in Karen, Nairobi, Kalonzo stated that the process was simplified by the report from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), whose recommendations he said would have been implemented promptly.
The former vice president noted that the report included nine legislative proposals that should have already been enacted and urged President William Ruto and Raila to reach an agreement on the appointment of the IEBC chairperson.
“That NADCO report had nine pieces of legislation which were supposed to be passed expeditiously in Parliament. The speed with which they impeached Gachagua would have been employed to implement the recommendations on NADCO. The appointing authorities were two; President William Ruto and Raila Odinga and I was answerable to Raila.
“Raila and Ruto are supposed to consult and agree on who becomes the chairperson of IEBC. We made it so easy for my friend Raila. I hope he can stand strong and act for once in the best interest of Azimio because when I last checked, I was still in Azimio and the leader is Raila, who appointed me to NADCO,” Kalonzo remarked.

He explained that when President Ruti signed the IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2024, into law, it was expected that the process of reconstituting IEBC would be expedited.
"We need to be able to act in the best interest of this country. This matter of IEBC is the most urgent issue. Why disenfranchise Kenyans?" Kalonzo posed.
His remarks come after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki stated that some Kenyans had filed an injunction against the establishment of the recruitment panel supposed to recruit IEBC commissioners, therefore delaying the process.
Kindiki appealed to the petitioners to reach an out-of-court agreement to resolve the matter in order to pave the way for the constitution of IEBC.
