The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has detailed progress on investigations and complaints lodged against police officers within the past six years.
In the IPOA Board End-Term Performance Report released on Tuesday, December 10, most complaints against police officers were reported in Nairobi County.
As revealed in the report, there were 9,286 complaints against police officers in Nairobi.
This was followed by Mombasa at 2,779 whose high numbers were attributed to police action in the fight against violent extremism and radicalisation among the youth.

Kisumu recorded 2,455 complaints followed by Eldoret at 1,255.
"The number of reported cases from counties is attributed to various factors. For instance, proximity to IPOA offices and the duration of the existence of such offices have contributed to Nairobi recording high numbers of reported police misconduct," read the report in part.
"Population size and the extent of economic activities were cited as contributing factors for the numbers in Kisumu, Mombasa and Uasin Gishu Counties which are the major economic hubs in the country."
Action Against Police Officers
As detailed in the report 10,022 cases were opened for investigations during the period of review. 5,655 investigations were completed with others still pending.
Consequently, 33 officers were convicted for various offences.
"In the same period, the court recommended acquittal of suspect officers in 64 case files, 52 cases were withdrawn while 48 cases were recommended for closure at the Court level," IPOA added.
