Kenya Railways has introduced a stopover at Voi for the Standard Guage Railway (SGR) night trains.

In a statement dated Friday, November 13, Kenya Railways announced that the change for the 10 pm night trains will commence on Sunday, December 15.

As detailed in the new directive, the trains will be making a stopover at the Voi Station for 3 minutes.

"Kenya Railways is pleased to announce that effective December 15, 2024, the 10 pm Madaraka Express Passenger Service train to and from Nairobi Terminus, will now make a 3-minute stopover at Voi station," read the statement in part.

"The train from Nairobi Terminus to Mombasa will stop at Voi station from 2:05 am to 2:08 am while the train from Mombasa Terminus to Nairobi will make a stopover from 11:45 pm to 11:48 pm."

Notably, the announcement by SGR comes after residents pleaded with Ruto to introduce the stopover for the night trains.

Consequently, while speaking in Taita Taveta County on December 3, the Head of State directed the Ministry of Transport to facilitate the request.

Initially, only the daytime trains were making a stopover at the Voi Station, limiting those travelling to Voi and the surrounding areas.

"Night train departs both Mombasa and Nairobi Termini simultaneously at 10:00 pm. This service does not entail stops during the journey," Kenya Railways explained in its earlier itinerary.
