"However, it is important to clarify that the Government is not involved in the demolitions in any manner," Isaac Mwaura said.

The Government has addressed the ongoing demolitions at Nyama Villa Estate in Kayole, affirming that it is not involved in the matter.

In a press statement on Tuesday, December 17, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura clarified that the situation stems from a longstanding land dispute involving an investment company and local residents.

"The Government acknowledges the distress and disruption the situation at Nyama villa estate in Kayole has caused to the affected Kenyans. However, it is important to clarify that the Government is NOT involved in the demolitions in any manner," he said.

Mwaura explained that the dispute, which has been in legal contention for years, resulted in court orders mandating residents to vacate the land after an out-of-court settlement fell through.

While some residents complied with the orders and have not been affected, he noted that others remain embroiled in the matter as new court directives have since been issued.

"The situation stems from a longstanding land dispute between an investment company and the residents. This matter has been the subject of legal contention for many years, resulting in court orders issued to the residents to vacate the land, after failure to honor an out-of-court agreement. A section of the residents did comply and have therefore not been affected by the orders. New orders have since been issued by the court," he added.

Mwaura called for open dialogue and fair resolution, encouraging all parties to seek justice through lawful means.

He also stated that the government is committed to working with local administrations to offer necessary assistance to affected residents.

"The Government therefore urges all parties involved to prioritize open dialogue within the confines of the rule of law to resolve any outstanding issues in a fair, just, and peaceable manner. The government respects the independence of the judiciary, rule of law, and the sanctity of private property. The Government will work closely with the local administration to provide any necessary assistance to those affected," he further stated.

Numerous families in Nyama Villa, within Kayole estate, were left homeless following a series of demolitions that began on December 16.

According to media reports, bulldozers, escorted by police, arrived without prior notice, leading to the destruction of homes and displacing residents.

The demolitions sparked significant public outrage, prompting the government to issue the statement.
