A 17-year-old girl has been placed under police custody following a fatal incident where she is accused of stabbing her 16-year-old cousin in Narok County.

In a statement on Sunday, December 22, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed that the two were involved in a dispute that later turned tragic resulting in the death.

According to DCI, the deceased, a girl, died of severe bleeding after being stabbed by the cousin, who is now in police custody.

"A family feud between two juvenile cousins culminated in the tragic death of one after she was stabbed in an incident reported at Narok Police Station yesterday.

"The deceased, a 16-year-old girl who hails from Fanaka estate of Narok Central died of profuse bleeding, inflicted on her by her 17-year-old first cousin (female) after a heated argument," DCI remarked.

The directorate noted that neighbours who witnessed the incident did not expect it to turn tragic and when they intervened, it was too late to save the life of the deceased.

"Neighbours who did not expect the sudden turn of events rushed to stop the fight, but were too late to save the life of the victim who was pronounced dead on arrival at Narok County Referral Hospital," DCI explained.

The juvenile suspected of committing the crime will be arraigned on Monday, December 23.

"The girl implicated in the unfortunate killing has been placed in custody pending arraignment on Monday, December 23, even as police probe the cause of the fight preceding the death," DCI added.
