President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga surprised Gor Mahia and Uganda's Kitara FC with a Ksh3 million donation.

Speaking during the official opening of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya County on Thursday, January 2, Ruto announced that he was donating Ksh2 million to celebrate the two competing teams.

He added that Raila would be making a Ksh1 million donation to the teams which played a friendly match during the opening of the stadium.

"Raila has noted Ksh 1 million and I have donated Ksh2 million so that these two teams can share because they have entertained us," the Head of State announced.

On the other hand, Ruto announced that the government would take over the remaining construction of the newly built stadium.

Construction of the stadium was started by former Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga. Siaya Governor James Orengo continued with the project.

Upon completion, the stadium will be able to hold 20,000 spectators. 

"The remaining work of completing this project including the canopy will be done by the national government until its completion," he added.

Also present at the event was President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda.
