The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued safety and compliance guidelines to PSV operators ahead of the reopening of schools next week.
In an advisory issued on Friday, January 3, PSV operators were notified to have relevant and valid documentation such as an inspection certificate and insurance before ferrying students.
The operators were also advised to ensure that their driving licenses and PSV operator licences are up to date.
All PSV vehicles also need to ensure that their speed limiter is transmitting data to NTSA's Intelligent Road Safety Management System.

"Ensure that the vehicle is serviced and parts including brakes, tyres, lights, and side mirrors are all functional," read the notice in part.
In terms of the conduct of students, PSV operators were called upon to ensure that there was no overloading of vehicles. All students must have their seat belts on.
Further, NTSA warned against students being allowed to hang any part of their body outside the vehicle.
In case of any intoxication of students, the operators were called upon to report the cases to relevant authorities.
Increased activity is expected on the roads as schools reopen for the first term of 2025. Schools across the country are expected to resume learning starting on Monday, January 6.
