Members of Parliament on Wednesday called for the firing of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo over the recent appointment of Mwende Mwinzi as Ambassador to Seoul, South Korea despite their opposition.
The MPs have accused Omamo of going against the law and abuse of office by allowing the appointment.
“The CS should be censured and action taken against her for abuse of law and abuse of office. That is the fact. If indeed the CS has done the appointment without the nominee complying with the conditions of this House, then she is in breach of law and action taken are unconstitutional,” said Narok North MP Richard Ole Kenta.
“This matter has been taken out of the Order Paper several times. I want to tell Parliament and the people of Kenya that the decisions of this House are not in vain. The report was conclusive. Parliament won the court case against Mwinzi,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Amos Kimunya has requested for three weeks leave on the matter as he seeks an official statement from the government.
While vetting her appointment, the MPs noted that Mwinzi can take over the role on condition that she relinquishes her dual citizenship.
