A woman in Ndhiwa sub-county is alleged to have beheaded her one-year-old son for refusing to breastfeed.

The Saturday night incident has sent the villagers in shock with reports indicating that the child had been crying uncontrollably.

According to reports, the boy identified as Briton Ochieng’ was in discomfort before his mother decided to breastfeed the baby to calm him down, but that did not work out.

The 23-year-old woman reportedly but baby Ochieng’ on a chair before going for a machete that he used to slit the baby's throat with.

Villagers who arrived at the home wanted to lynch the suspect before Area Assistant Chief Gabriel Nyatame rescued her.

“I rushed to the scene and found the child had been beheaded. Residents had tied her hands with a sisal rope,” Nyatame stated.

“We do not know the main reason why the woman killed her son. However, she is saying she killed him because she tried several times to breastfeed the baby, but he declined,” he added.

Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander Robert Aboki confirmed the incident saying the woman is in custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
