The sex workers noted that they are in a profession that puts them at high risk of contracting the disease.

A group of commercial sex workers from Busia County have asked the government to include them on the list of Kenyans set to get the first round of Covid-19 vaccine.

Speaking in Nambale, the sex workers noted that they are in a profession that puts them at high risk of contracting the disease.

According to the group, vaccinating sex workers will help curb the spread of Covid-19 in Kenya and across borders since some of their clients are foreigners.

“We even said that we are part of the essential service providers and vile chanjo imepatikana I’d urge our government to consider sex workers because we are most at risk and serve a large community in our society,” the group said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health rolled out Covid-19 vaccination on Friday last week at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

MoH Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth was the first Kenyan to receive the jab. According to the ministry, Dr. Amoth was settled on in order to instill confidence among Kenyans to embrace the vaccine.

According to the vaccination plan released by the government, priority will be given to frontline workers in the first round of the exercise.
