Sputnik V is a Fraud, Ruto Took a Rejected Vaccine - Otiende Amollo

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has claimed that the Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V being offered in Kenya is a fraud.

Speaking during an interview on Thursday morning, Otiende Amollo slammed Deputy President William Ruto for taking the vaccine despite it facing critical concerns in the country.

He further noted that the government should come up with a directive on the virus, noting that the current situation where others get a free jab (AstraZeneca) while others pay for Sputnik V is confusing.

Otiende also hit out at the government over the delay in the importation of the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine noting that it is “irresponsible” to get one dose and lack plans on how to get the second as required.

“I think Sputnik V is a fraud; Govt. is confused on whether to authorize the importation. It is utter confusion for DP Ruto to take a vaccine the Govt. has refused. It is irresponsible to import a dose without planning how a second dose will get here,” Otiende opined.

The Russian Sputnik V vaccine was imported in the country by a private entity and began being administered on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

Renowned Kenyan lawyers; Ahmednasir Abdulahi and Donald Kipkorir were among the first Kenyans to take the jab which has been described as a “vaccine for the wealthy”.

Speaking after taking the jab, Donald Kipkorir said: “Today, I became the Second Kenya to take the Russia COVID-19 Sputnik V vaccine ... I have full confidence in the vaccine to protect me from all COVID-19 variants.”

On his part, Ahmednasir said “First Kenyan to take the Sputnik V in Kenya.”
