Speaking during the inspection, Odinga opened up on his battle with Covid-19 noting that for three weeks he was very ill.

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday made his first public appearance after testing positive for Covid-19 over three weeks.

Odinga accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta to the city centre where they together inspected development projects.

Speaking during the inspection, Odinga opened up on his battle with Covid-19 noting that for three weeks he was very ill.

“Leo nimepata fursa ya kutoka nje kwa mara ya kwanza natoa shukrani kwa ndugu yangu kuja kunialika nyumbani nitoke njee ili Wakenya waone sura yangu…Mungu ni mwema. Kwa wiki tatu nimekuwa katika hali mahututi lakini sasa nimetoka,” he said.

Watching him keenly, you can tell that he is yet to fully recover and gain his usual strength. His voice also appears to be weak.

Raila tested positive for Covid in early March and has been receiving treatment for the past three weeks.

On March 31, 2021, his ODM party announced that he had finally tested negative for the virus and was out of danger.

"We are happy our Party Leader Raila Odinga has tested negative and is out of danger of Covid-19. We thank God for that. God Bless him, God Bless Kenya,” ODM tweeted.

On his part, President Kenyatta noted that he was happy to learn that the ODM leader has recovered from the virus and decided to invite him for the tour.
