President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday said that the recent covid-19 restrictions will only be removed once we flatten the curve of infections in the country.
Last week, Kenyatta ordered the cessation of movement by road, rail, or air into and out of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, and Nakuru counties.
Addressing the press, the Head of State noted that the infections in the five counties was at a high rate of 27% which necessitated the lockdown.
The president added that the only way to lift the lockdown in the five counties was to ensure the infection rate was back down to 5%.
"And as to when these measures will be removed and we can go back to normal, which is our prayer every single day, depends on how we are able to flatten this curve," Kenyatta said.

He added that the country can't ignore the advice they were getting from World Health Organisation (WHO) and health experts in the country.
The President also assured Kenyans who have been vaccinated that they wouldn't miss out on the second dose.
"I want to assure you that nobody who has taken their first dose (COVID-19 vaccine) and that I can give you complete assurance, is going to miss out on their second dose," Kenyatta stated.
