BBC Journalist Succumbs to Covid-19

The BBC Africa family is in mourning after one of its senior employees Lynn Kariuki succumbed to Covid-19 related complications.

In a memo seen by NairobiLeo, BBC mourned Lynn who served as the Administrative Manager in charge of African Languages as “a kind and generous” employee.

“I am writing with the very sad news that our colleague Lynn Kariuki has died. Lynn was based in our Nairobi office, from where she supported various African Languages Services, as part of Martina Wolf’s team. Lynn worked for the BBC for more than 10 years. She was kind and generous and she will be much missed by her colleagues in Nairobi and London,” the memo read in part.

In her condolence message, Martina Wolf; head of the team that Lynn worked under termed the deceased as a warm and calm person.

“We are devastated that Lynn has died. She was taken ill last week with Covid19 and unfortunately did not recover. Many of you will have known Lynn, who worked as a Production Coordinator in the Nairobi bureau, supporting the Africa teams in London and Kenya.

 “She was the kindest, warmest and calmest person and had a fantastic sense of humour. She never crumbled even in times of utmost adversity when her mother, father and grandparents passed away only a few years ago. I am sure that I talk on behalf of everyone who knew her, but I personally will miss her very, very much and she leaves an enormous void in our life,” Martina’s message read in part.

Lynn will be laid to rest on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Nakuru South Cemetry. A virtual vigil is set to be held today afternoon to bid farewell to the departed and console the family.
