President Kenyatta on Friday, November 12, 2021, called for heightened vigilance among security agencies in the country.
His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed internal security institutions to heighten vigilance and surveillance across the country following the unfolding security situation in the region.
The Head of State gave the instructions during today's National Security Council meeting.
President Kenyatta spoke in relation to the civil unrest experienced in the Eastern Africa region especially in Ethiopia and Tigrey regions and neighbouring Somalia.
Last week, President Kenyatta and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the escalating security situation in Tigrey.

In a statement, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that President Kenyatta and Blinken discussed the situation in Ethiopia. The US Secretary of State also thanked the Uhuru for his continued leadership in a bid to promote peace and prosperity in the region.
"Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta today to discuss regional security issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Ethiopia. The Secretary thanked the President for his continued leadership to promote peace and prosperity in the region,” the statement read in part.
Blinken is also expected to visit Kenya this month and will meet with President Kenyatta. He had visited Kenya virtually in April.
The announcement by President Kenyatta also comes days after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) put a Ksh10 million bounty each on five terror suspects.
