Area Chief: We met teachers who said some students had complained of chest pains and out of fear, thought they had contracted Covid-19 but this was not an emergency to make them run

Forty Six form four students at Kiptoim Secondary School in Mogotio, Baringo County on Sunday left the institution over fears of contracting Covid-19.

According to the area chief, the students conducted a protest in the institution before walking away.

“We received the news that the students went on strike and went there to check on the damages… Investigations are underway to establish why the students fled the school.

“We met teachers who said some students had complained of chest pains and out of fear, thought they had contracted Covid-19 but this was not an emergency to make them run,” area chief Bundotich Kiprotich said as quoted by Standard.


The school leadership has reached out to parents of the affected students in a bid to ensure that they report back to institution.

Covid-19 cases increase in schools

Meanwhile, the number of students testing positive for the virus has been gradually increasing across the country.

Last week, 52 KCSE candidates from Kolanya Boys’ High School in Teso North Sub-County, Busia County tested positive for Covid-19.

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong confirmed the reports adding that six teachers from the school have also tested positive for the disease.

They have all been placed under mandatory quarantine at the school and health officers from the Busia County Hospital assigned to attend to them.
