The governor has called on Kenyans to boycott the August 9 polls.

Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has called on Kenyans to boycott the August General Election if the government does not review the price of maize flour.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, June 28, Wa Iria said that the government had 24 hours to reduce the price of the commodity to Sh100 or else no Kenyan should go to vote.

The Usawa kwa Wote party leader said that Kenyans were sleeping hungry, adding that his party would launch a revolution in the country.

“Kenyans are at their worst point. And I’m saying from the Usawa point of view, we are starting Usawa resistance movement. We are resisting hunger, we are resisting injustice. But the first injustice we must resist is hunger.

“I have announced officially that they must reduce the price of unga to Sh100. If they don’t do that, there would not be elections in Kenya,” Wa Iria stated.

According to Wa Iria, he has already filed a petition at the high court for the price of maize flour to be subsidized.

“I moved to court today and petitioned at the High Court that the government reduce the price of unga to Sh100 because unga is a basic right,” he added.

His remarks come after he headed to the Supreme Court to seek orders to compel the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to clear him to vie for the presidency.
