CS Fred Matiang'i Writes Farewell Letter as Term Ends

Outgoing Interior CS Fred Matiangi penned a farewell letter to senior ministry officials lauding them for selfless service as his term comes to an end. 

In the letter dated Friday, September 9, CS Matiang'i thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve Kenyans. 

"I want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for bestowing his trust in me. I am humbled by the privilege to serve in his cabinet in four different ministries over the entirety of his tenure. I can never thank him enough for this honour.

"As my tour of duty comes to an end, I exult in the pride of knowing that we have not only honoured expectations but exceeded them by important and evident milestones. History will vindicate our legacy," part of the letter read. 

The outgoing CS highlighted some of the achievements they had achieved during his tenure by working closely with other officials in the ministry. 

"The Tripple threats of female genital mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies, and sexual violence that plagued our girls have been tamed to an all-time low. Important improvements in service delivery of essential services domiciled in the ministry such as issuance of birth and death certificates, IDs, passports, and motor vehicle registration have been realised. Kenyans now get these services within reduced time and at more locations across the country obviating the need for expensive and time wasting travel," Matiang'i states. 

In the recently concluded election, Matiang'i noted that his team put up a stellar performance despite accusations of interfering with the polls. 

"Despite immense criticism, scorn and false accusations of scheming to manipulate and interfere with the General Election, our sector put up a stellar and professional performance in supporting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct the General Election. 

"The just-concluded Presidential petitions and the subsequent ruling did not indict our expansive team across the country any wrongdoing. This affirms our collective professionalism and due diligence to duty. Equally, it is my conviction that those tasked with facilitating the smooth transition to the next administration will exhibit similar professionalism," the letter reads in part," CS Matiang'i.
