Winnie Odinga and Kennedy Musyoka Elected to EALA

Azimio leader Raila Odinga's daughter, Winnie Odinga, has been elected by the Senate to be a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). 

In a voting exercise held on Thursday, November 17, Winnie was elected alongside Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's son, Kennedy Musyoka.

Winnie garnered 35 votes, while Kennedy garnered 45 votes out of the 56 valid votes. Out of 65 senators, only 58 cast their votes. Two votes were spoilt.

Others who were elected by the Senate to the EALA seats were former nominated MP David Sankok, former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, former Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, Fred Muteti, Zipporah Kering, Iman Falhada and Suleiman Shahbal.

Sankok garnered 35, Shahbal 38, Omar 46, Muteti 39, Kering 37, Falhada 43, while Gedi garnered 31 votes.

In the voting exercise in the National Assembly, Winnie garnered 212 votes out of the total 306 valid votes, while the younger Musyoka garnered 217 votes.

Sankok garnered 118 votes in the National Assembly, Omar 207, Kering 186, Falhada 131, and Shahbal 143.

Muteti and Gedi failed to garner enough votes in the National Assembly to sail through as Muteti got 150 with Gedi garnering 138. 

Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega, who was nominated by the Jubilee party, garnered 168 votes in the National Assembly.

Mwangi Maina, who did not feature in the final shortlist by UDA, garnered 184 votes. 

The total votes in the National assembly were 320 with 14 spoilt votes.

In the consolidated votes between the Senate and the National Assembly, the following were elected to EALA:
