Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has passed on at Nairobi Hospital, Friday, December 18, 2020.
According to the family, he suffered breathing problems after his lungs collapsed.
He had been in hospital for over three weeks.
On Thursday, the governor's family issued an update on his health after reports on local dailies indicated he was on life support.
His son, Gideon Momanyi, dismissed the reports stating that the governor was in the hospital and recuperating well.
“This is to inform the general public that the governor is well and recuperating in the hospital and any reports doing the round in social media should be treated as rumours," Momanyi stated.
"Let the media and social media users be responsible and fair to the family and friends of the governor including employees of the county government of Nyamira," he added.
Messages of condolence to the family and people of Nyamira have been pouring in following the death of the Governor.
"A good soul has rested. A fine man has returned to the creator. A good man, a gentleman par excellence, a man of few words, a leader who championed for the rights of his people, and an astute leader. The ODM has lost a loyal member and a believer in our course. RIP Gvn Nyagarama," ODM tweeted.
