Former KTN News anchor Mike Gitonga has been appointed as the new secretary of state functions, which was formerly known as the Government Spokesperson.
In a statement via Twitter on Saturday, January 7, Gitonga thanked President William Ruto for the appointment.
"With a new year comes new beginnings, I am first of all grateful to God. I also take this opportunity to thank the President of Kenya William Ruto for the opportunity to serve this nation as Secretary State Functions," He tweeted.
Mr. Gitonga added, "I am indebted to The First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto Your leadership and guidance are invaluable I will work to the best of my ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this role, so help me God."

Gitonga’s new role will entail coordinating, planning, managing, and implementing communication of government policies, programs, and initiatives.
He will also be tasked with providing oversight of technical operations in the Directorates of Information, Public Communication, and Film Services, Kenya News Agency, Government Advertising Agency, Office of the Information Secretary, and the Government Media Centre.
Gitonga previously served as the Communication Director in the Office of the First Lady. He also worked at Family media before joining the Standard Media Group.
He holds a Degree in Electrical Engineering from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom (UK).
