Politician Mike Sonko has filed petitions against the Senate's decision to uphold his removal as Nairobi Governor.
On Monday, December 21, 2020, Mr Sonko moved to the courts seeking temporary orders stopping the new election slated in 60 days.
Sonko was officially impeached after the members of the Senate voted overwhelmingly to kick him out of the office.
The Senate voted overwhelmingly in favour of four charges brought against him which included gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, misconduct and crimes against national law.
Sonko was first impeached by 88 members of the county assembly on December 3 when they voted to support the impeachment motion while 2 others voted against the move.
The flamboyant politician has been at loggerhead with the national government especially President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he accuses of meddling into Nairobi county matters.
Sonko maintained innocence and labelled the recent move as unnecessary adding that he will not be intimidated in his political ambition and duty to the Nairobians.
