The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sleuths have apprehended former General Service Unit (GSU) officer Joseph Kariuki Ruoro over nine incidents of robbery with violence.
DCI in a statement on Wednesday, July 12 stated that was in hiding following the arrests and killing of his accomplices.
“The blackguard who could not live up to the oath of office for police officers tucked away after several of his accomplices were either arrested or fell by the gun in various robbery encounters with police,” read the statement in part.
According to the DCI, Ruoro was part of the Equity Bank Matuu robbery incident in July 2021, when a gang of five robbed the bank and disappeared with two AK47 rifles that they disarmed from officers manning the bank.

“A series of stealth operations had been conducted to neutralize the gang and its affiliated groups, in the course of which one of the rifles was recovered and several arrests made.
“In DCI's endeavour to sanitize the streets of gangsters and scrupulously hunt for guns in the wrong hands, the 2nd AK47 rifle was recovered at Takaungu area in Kilifi County yesterday, in an operation that extended to Gilgil where Ruoro was cornered and arrested,” DCI added.
Ruoro is also linked to robbery incidents reported in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Machakos counties.
