Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amolo’s elder sister Elizabeth Ongoro has defected from the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.
Speaking on Monday, July 24, at the UDA headquarters in Nairobi, Ongoro stated that she joined the ruling party without coercion or bribery.
"We have joined UDA without coercion, bribery, or anybody promising us anything. We believe that the UDA party is what Kenya needs at such a time as this,” said Ongoro.
The former Kasarani MP at the same time stated that she has no bad blood with Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga since she has supported him for a long time.

"Truth be told, I have supported Raila since I was a young girl, I have never supported another president. I joined ODM in my 20s and I am now in my prime 40s….I come to UDA with all my heart, with all my mental faculties functioning well, with clarity of mind and absolute conviction that I have made the right choice,” said Ongoro.
She further slammed the opposition for using the youths to protest to achieve selfish gains while they are injured.
"We can't seek power by allowing our youths to go to the streets and fight armed and trained police officers but we retreat to our armored cars," she stated.
UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malalah while welcoming Ongoro to the party tasked her to stop the planned Azimio demos in Nairobi.
“On behalf of President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the entire UDA secretariat we welcome you to the party and your first task is to make sure there are no protests in Nairobi,” said Malalah.
