Martha Karua holds that Wafula Chebukati turned the IEBC into an 'auction house'.

Narc-Kenya leader has faulted Wafula Chebukati for mismanaging the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) during his tenure.

Chebukati's tenure at the electoral agency will be lapsing in early 2023; President William Ruto has already declared a vacancy in the post.

Even with Chebukati's 'dignified' exit from the agency, Karua holds he presided over the bungling of the presidential elections he has overseen in his capacity as IEBC's chairperson.

According to Karua, Chebukati "presided over an auction house".

Karua was among the petitioners against Chebukati's declaration of William Ruto as the winner of the August 9, 2022, presidential election.

On an Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party ticket, Karua had vied for the presidency alongside Raila Odinga whom she was slated to deputise.

The Supreme Court however threw out the petitions by Karua and her team, declaring Ruto as the duly elected president.

The Narc Kenya leader vowed not to recognise Ruto as the president despite abiding by the apex court ruling.

She said she would be moving to the East African Court of Justice to have the ruling scrutinised.

Meanwhile, a section of Members of Parliament affiliated with the Azimio coalition party has called for a transparent process of replacing Chebukati and two other commissioners.

Led by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, the MPs on Sunday, October 23, further demanded that Chebukati proceeds to terminal leave.

The lawmaker said that Chebukati and commissioners Boya Molu and Prof. Abdi Guliye should be on terminal leave as required by law.

"Why is it so difficult for Chebukati and his friends to go home yet the law and procedures require them to go home three months before their exit date? We are still calling upon them to proceed on terminal leave without any further delay," Wandayi stated.
