Music Copyright Society of Kenya Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua has ignited debate after questioning Citizen TV Editorial Director Linus Kaikai's absence from President William Ruto's interview on Sunday, December 17.
In a statement, Mutua wondered why Kaikai was not picked for such a critical interview with the Head of State.
Mutua noted that Kaikai's presence would have helped Ruto to delve deeper into pertinent issues due to thorough questioning by the veteran journalist.
"Why is Linus Kakai, for example, not here? We need seasoned, skilled, charismatic and deeply knowledgeable journalists for such moments. An interview with a President with a PhD is no walk in the park. It requires preparation and skill, even the ability to think on one's feet," Mutua opined.

Prof Ole Kiyiapi backed his sentiments arguing that the team picked to interview the Head of State did not bring out the questions with philosophical underpinning.
"Exactly my feeling - the media team asked questions everyone is asking without the ability for deeper interrogation, philosophical underpinnings - the President had a great time explaining his Programmes & underlying reasoning. Where are the likes of Joe Ageyo, Linus Kaikai, and Yvonne ?" Kiyiapi posed.
However, a section of media practitioners lashed out at Mutua for discrediting the journalist who interviewed President Ruto.
Led by NTV anchor, Frederick Muituiriri, they applauded the journalist who kept it professional and explored a wide range of topics.
"You have had such a disdain for Kenyan journalists for such a long time, I'm not shocked. And no, those journalists did us all proud. Journalists don't necessarily ask questions to satisfy their curiosity or Ph.D. holders, they ask on behalf of their audiences. Basic rules. Chill," Muituiriri wrote.
Some of the journalists who interviewed Ruto included Sam Gituku (Citizen TV) Ali Manzu (KTN) and Grace Kuria (TV47) among others.
Nonetheless, Kenyans lauded Citizen TV's Gituku indicating that he stood out during the interview.
