Governor Kihika Issues New Orders After Grisly Accident That Killed 5

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has issued new directives following the tragic accident that occurred at Eveready Roundabout along the Eldoret -Nakuru Highway killing five passengers on the spot on December 31.

In a statement dated Tuesday, January 2, Kihika announced that the Nakuru County government has waived all medical bills for the victims of the accident.

Kihika noted that nine people were still receiving treatment at various facilities in the county.

"Following the untimely accident that happened at Eveready Roundabout in the early hours of 31st December 2023, the County Government of Nakuru will waive all fees related to the treatment of the nine victims currently receiving treatment at Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital (NCTRH)," Kihika announced.

Furthermore, the First-time Governor announced that the county will also waive mortuary fees for the dead. Additionally, Kihika noted that the families will receive financial support to help plan for the burial.

"We shall also waive the fees for those who lost their lives and stand with their families at this difficult moment. Towards this, my office will provide some financial support to the families for the burial of the victims," she stated.

"My condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. And wishing a quick recovery to those undergoing treatment," she added.

The accident occurred after the driver of the trailer lost control and rammed into a Matatu belonging to Ngata Sacco Matatu which in turn rammed into another trailer.

Several other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.

However, two more passengers succumbed to injuries bringing the number of the dead to seven.
