A police constable has been positively identified after CCTV footage emerged showing him armed and in full regalia robbing a supermarket.
Police Constable Edgar Opollo was recorded by CCTV among three other suspects who ransacked the supermarket based in Kisii and made away with ksh40,000.
"The incident was captured by CCTV cameras showing three robbers who had partly covered their faces, two of whom were armed, one with an AK47 and the other with a pistol. The rifle bearer had police fatigues on, but it was not apparent that he was a police officer," DCI's report indicated.
"Following Opollo's arrest, an identification parade was conducted where the supermarket owner successfully identified him as one of the robbers who accosted him," it added.

The incident happened on February 2 and the police constable was arrested the following day after a botched robbery incident.
Opollo was caught red-handed stealing a phone from a Kisii University Student and was waylaid by an angry mob in Kisii town. He was saved by other officers on patrol who managed to disperse the crowd which had cornered and left him in unconscious condition.
"Police Constable Edgar Opollo was saved from a furious mob by Kisii Central police who were on patrol, after finding the armed suspect under a hail of hefty blows," DCI revealed.
"On inquiry, the officers established that the suspect had robbed a smartphone from a Kisii University student, and on frisking the injured suspect found the phone. He was arrested and escorted to the station."
Further investigations have revealed that the suspect is a General Service Unit officer deployed in Kisii.
He is currently recuperating under police guard at a Kisii hospital pending interrogation and arraignment for robbery with violence.
