63 residents have been left homeless in Soweto Ward, Embakasi East Constituency after a fire broke out at midnight on Tuesday, February 6.
According to Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili famously known as Babu Owino, the fire started at night at razed down iron sheet structures which were occupied by the residents.
From the pictures shared by the lawmaker, the residents were seen trying to salvage some of their properties after the fire was extinguished.

The second-term member of parliament did not immediately reveal the cause of the fire. He however pleaded with the country to support the victims.
The incident comes days following a tragic gas explosion in the Mradi area, Embakasi which left six people dead and over 270 others nursing serious injuries.
Both fire incidents occurred in the same constituency led by Babu Owino. Regarding the Mradi explosion incident, the lawmaker called on the government to expedite the probe and serve justice to the residents.
Babu Owino also appealed to President William Ruto to allocate the residents some of the affordable houses which are complete in several parts of the city as the gas explosion rendered them homeless.
His sentiments were backed by Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who asked Ruto to give each affected family Ksh500,000 compensation.
“Every family affected by last week’s fire caused by gas explosion in Embakasi should be given a cash compensation of Ksh500,000. This is pure negligence," Raila stated.
So far the owner of the gas plant has been arrested and DCI have launched a manhunt for five other suspects who are still at large.
