Businesses in Bomet Town were on Wednesday, February 7 brought to a standstill after locals staged protests against Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok.
The protestors blocked the Bomet-Narok highway by setting up tires on fire, paralyzing transport on the busy road.
Matatu drivers were forced to park their vehicles to avoid injuries to passengers and vehicles being damaged.
The angry residents accused Governor Barchok of poor service delivery, non-payment of county workers, and poor road network.
The locals also alleged that the county’s dumping site is exposing people living within the area to contracting cholera.

“I stand on behalf of the people of Bomet, who are working under county government who have not been paid 11 months salary and water which has been out of service for three months,” former MCA aspirant Bildad Cheruiyot stated.
The youth leader went on to say they will hold demos every Wednesday until Governor Barchok addresses the issues.
“We will do demos in this town every Wednesday until he pays for water, pays county workers, and renovates the roads in tow,” Cheruiyot added.
The police officers were forced to lob teargas canisters to disperse the angry protestors. The officers arrested Cheruiyot who is alleged to have planned the anti-Barchok demonstrations.
