Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Tuesday, February 27 arrested five brothers working at the Kwale County government over Ksh 48.9 million graft.
In a statement, EACC said brothers have been using two companies to execute fraudulent deals with the Kwale County Government.
“EACC has this morning arrested Kwale County Head of Treasury Vincent Mbito and his 4 brothers working in various Departments in the county, to face graft charges.
“The Mbitos are the Directors/owners of two companies namely Chilongola Holdings and Rome Investments (k) Limited, which they have been using to execute fraudulent deals with the Kwale County Government,” read the statement in part.

The five include; Vincent Chirima Mbito who is the County Head of Treasury, Mongo Mbito Mongo who serves as the County Revenue Officer, Hassan Shilingi Mbito a driver at Kwale Water and Sewerage Company Limited, Mwaiwe Mongo Mbito a Kwale County Procurement Officer and Chindoro Mongo Mbit an officer at the Ministry of Health who initially worked as an Intern at Kwale County.
The Mbito brothers are set to be arraigned at the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court to take a plea.
According to EACC, the five will face charges related to 10 contracts fraudulently awarded to Rome Investments and Chilongola Limited companies which were paid exaggerated amounts of Ksh 44,919,341 and Ksh 4,007,943 respectively.
“The total amount was distributed to the suspects. The tenders, which they obtained in violation of procurement laws using forged documents, were for the supply and delivery of sanitation materials, food and ration, general office supplies, and institutional appliances,” EACC added.
