Fafi MP Salah Yakub recently disclosed plans to remove the presidential term limit.

Barely two weeks after Fafi MP Salah Yakub revealed plans to seek the scrapping of the presidential term limit, President William Samoei Ruto has told UDA Members of Parliament to carry out their parliamentary assignments with seriousness.

Addressing a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group in State House, Nairobi on Wednesday, November 16, the Head of State urged the MPs to prioritise projects that have a direct impact on the lives of Kenyans.

“You were elected to serve the people; their issues must come first,” President Ruto stated.

He urged the MPs, including Yakub who was present at the meeting, to desist from engaging in trivial issues like the review of the Constitution to alter the presidential term limit.

 “As President, I won’t participate in efforts aimed at mutilating the Constitution for parochial, selfish, and personal interests,” he noted.

He told the MPs to pass regulations that will facilitate the implementation of the hustlers fund.

Mr. Yakub, who was elected on UDA ticket, had claimed that what was remaining is for the proposers to sit and draft the constitutional amendment Bill and forward it to Parliament.

The 2010 Constitution maintained the presidential term limit for two years. Section 142 of the constitution of Kenya says;

(1) The President shall hold office for a term beginning on the date on which the President was sworn in, and ending when the person next elected President in accordance with Article 136 (2) (a) is sworn in.

(2) A person shall not hold office as President for more than two terms.
