Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, March 28 apologised to President William Ruto after arriving after him during the Holy Oil celebrations at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa in Makadara, Nairobi.
Speaking during the event, Gachagua said he was held up in a meeting that the President was aware of resulting in him arriving late.
The DP noted that he has only arrived late in President Ruto’s events twice since he assumed office in September 2022.
“Your Excellency, I want to apologise that I came after you and that is not what it should be, I was held up in a meeting that you are aware of that is why I arrived after you. This is the second time since I became your deputy that I am late. It is not disrespect or indiscipline. Respect and discipline are part of my DNA and you know it,” said Gachagua.
The Deputy President earlier had an engagement with small-scale traders from Nairobi at his official Karen residence.

In a statement, Gachagua said they shared concerns and proposals for removing obstacles for a smooth business environment.
“We prioritise resolving the issues through short-term, midterm, and long-term measures because it is the Ruto Administration's commitment to revitalising all sectors through pragmatic and people-centred sustainable interventions guided by a multiagency approach,” Gachagua stated.
Before the engagement with the Nairobi small-scale traders, DP Gachagua hosted Kenyan athletes at his residence.
Gachagua promised to continue engaging upcoming and seasoned athletes to understand ways of enhancing this sport in posterity.
