The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the demise of a grassroots party official.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 2, ODM identified the deceased as Jane Akinyi who served as the Chairlady of Utawala Ward in Embakasi East Constituency.
According to the ODM party, the party official passed on after a short illness.
In their eulogy, the Orange Democratic Movement described the deceased as a loyal official who played a vital role in popularising the party in Embakasi and also helped it extend its roots in the vast Nairobi region.
"We are saddened by the passing on of our Chairlady for Utawala Ward in Embakasi East Constituency Madam Jane Akinyi after a short illness," the statement read in part.

"As a party, we have lost a loyal and dedicated leader who worked hard for the party’s growth in Utawala and Nairobi as a whole. May her soul RIP," it added.
The party is expected to announce funeral and burial plans for the departed official.
This comes weeks after ODM announced Joseph Njoroge Kihara's death who was a branch official in Kiambu County.
"Today we mourn the passing on of our chairman of the Githunguri Branch in Kiambu County Joseph Njoroge Kihara after an illness. We have lost a loyal and dedicated member of the party who worked tirelessly to popularise the party in Kiambu. We shall miss him. RIP Chairman," the party announced.
On January 29, the ODM party also suffered a double tragedy following the deaths of Gem ODM Youth League chairman Aggrey Okoth Ombee and a former ward rep.
