"I was called and informed that he has been admitted here after being attacked last night. The gang robbed him and then attacked, leaving him unconscious," a relative of the attacked tuktuk driver said.
Another witness indicated that the machete-wielding gang was attacking residents indiscriminately.
They lamented pointing out that it was the second attack recorded in the area in the last two weeks.
"These are our kids who are committing these crimes. But our police officers are not responding on time, they are waiting till they hear the cases have worsened for them to act," a trader stated.
"The officers are quick to act if they get reports of illegal drugs in the area but in case of attacks, they do not respond. If possible, let all the officers be transferred," she added.
Preliminary reports indicate that four members of the machete-wielding gang have been arrested. However, the National Police Service is yet to issue a statement regarding the attack.
