Kega scored 197 votes to be elected one of the four EALA MPs from the Azimio camp.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday divulged that he had a hand in the victory of Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega who was elected to EALA on Thursday.

Addressing a funeral in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County, the DP said he did so because time for politics is over.

"I spoke to the leaders from the mountain, I told them this Kanini Kega who was insulting me and President William Ruto (but) they should just vote for him," Gachagua said.

"Did they or did they not vote for him?" he asked. "That's the new Kenya we want," he added.

Gachagua used the funeral to rally the Mt Kenya community to stay united and work together.

He said there is a need to work together for the betterment of the region now that politics had come to an end.

"Siasa imeisha, sisi mambo yaliyopita hatutaki kufuata, na hasaa hii mlima yetu, tunataka tuunganishe tusiunganishe?" he asked the mourners.(We don't want to focus on bygones, and especially the mountain, don't you want us to unite it?)

Kega was nominated by the Jubilee party to EALA. He will represent the Azimio coalition that was handed four slots. Other are Suleiman Shahbal, Winnie Odinga and Kennedy Kalonzo.

Kega scored 197 votes to be elected one of the four EALA MPs from the Azimio camp.

He garnered 29 votes in Senate and 168 votes in the National Assembly.
