Kenyans on Tuesday took to the streets across major towns in the country to protest against the government. 

Anti-government demonstrations resumed on Tuesday, July 16 as many Kenyans took to the streets across major towns in the country.

In Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), protestors barricaded a section of Moi Avenue near Kencom with stones rendering it impassable. Anti-riot police officers battled the protestors to disperse them from gaining momentum.

The officers lobbed teargas canisters at the protestors along Moi Avenue while plain-clothed officers arrested those who were found in groups.

Most shops and other businesses in Biashara Street, Moi Avenue, and Tom Mboya Street were closed.

The security officers also mounted roadblocks along Parliament Road, Supreme Court, and the Professional Way.

In Kitengela, the protests turned chaotic with the youths barricading the Nairobi-Namanga highway. Police officers were forced to lob teargas canisters as they confronted the irate protestors to disperse them. The officers at some point temporarily retreated after they depleted their tear gas canisters.

In Eldoret, the protests were rather peaceful with a few youths turning up for the anti-government protests.

One youth who was whistling to mobilize his colleagues was arrested outside Zion Mall. There were large contingents of police officers patrolling the major streets of Eldoret town.

In Kericho town, masked men with batons were spotted patrolling the town together with police officers.

Major streets however remained peaceful despite youth coming out to show their displeasure with the Kenya Kwanza government.

The situation was similar in Kakamega town where men were seen patrolling with batons. They were however overpowered by protestors and the batons taken away.

 In Kisumu, irate demonstrators blocked the busy Nairobi-Kisumu highway while others were seen dancing and waving flags.

Mombasa on the other hand remained largely peaceful with a section of youth taking to the streets to protest against the government. The police have barricaded major roads in the city.

The protests were also witnessed in Baringo, Mlolongo, Migori, Machakos, Kilifi and Bungoma.
