“Should any of our members opt to join the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity we shall not be party to that decision."

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that the Azimio coalition has resolved not to join President William Ruto’s proposed government of national unity.

Addressing the media on Friday, July 19, Kalonzo said joining the Kenya Kwanza government would be a betrayal of the ideology and values of the Azimio coalition and its constituent parties.

“We shall not join for the straightforward reason that such actions are a betrayal of the ideology, values, and tenets of both our coalition party and our constituent parties,” said Kalonzo.

The former vice president noted that nothing would change in Kenya Kwanza even if the cabinet is reorganized.

Kalonzo pointed out that the cabinet should be reconstituted after the proposed national convention to address issues affecting Kenyans is conducted.

“As long as the Kenya Kwanza regime remains in place absolutely nothing will change. A cabinet reorganizational and changing of office holders will only be cosmetic.

“Unless that new cabinet would take place after what Raila Odinga called a convention. Following that convention, then there can be engagements with regard to interim arrangements of a government of national unity,” Kalonzo remarked.

The Wiper Party leader further said that any Azimio member who will join the broad-based government will be in their individual capacity and not on behalf of the opposition coalition.

“Should any of our members opt to join the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity we shall not be party to that decision. They will be joining in their individual capacities, not on behalf of Azimio,” Kalonzo added.
