Former Isiolo South Member of Parliament Abdi Tepo opened fire on Thursday, July 25, at Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives who had gone to his house in a search operation targeting his wife.
In a statement by EACC, Tepo's wife, Halima Gura Roka, was a prime suspect in a multi-million National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) graft scandal.
The former lawmaker opened fire on EACC detectives as they tried to enter his home, but he was eventually arrested along with his wife.
"Former Isiolo South MP Hon. Abdi Tepo and his wife Halima Gura Roka, a Quality Assurance Officer at the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) have been arrested.
"The couple was arrested on Thursday afternoon after the MP purported to open fire at EACC detectives who had gone to his residence for a search operation targeting his wife, a prime suspect in the multi-million NHIF graft scandal under investigation by the Commission," EACC stated.

A search of the house led to the recovery of briefcases containing counterfeit US dollars, estimated to be worth millions of shillings, and various chemicals.
"During the operation, detectives recovered two briefcases full of US dollars, estimated to be in millions, and assorted chemicals (in powder and liquid form) suspected to be used for making fake notes. Samples of the notes tested at the EACC Integrated Financial Forensic Lab were fake," EACC added.
The former lawmaker and his wife were handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) along with the recovered items and a Ceska pistol with an expired license.
According to the EACC, the operation targeted seven suspects, including the MP's wife, the Eastleigh NHIF branch manager and five directors of Beirut Pharmacy, who fraudulently obtained Sh199 million from NHIF through fictitious claims facilitated by NHIF officials.
