Police in Ruaka, Kiambu County, have arrested six robbery suspects after they attempted to raid an apartment in the area.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 6, the police disclosed that the suspects, Morgan Mungai Mburu, Stephen Kamau Njoroge, Alexander Kibogoro Waimaitha, Reinhard Mwangi Ngumba, Erick Mwiru and Gregory Nganga, were smoked out from a gateway matatu after their failed attempt.

The owner of the apartment had alerted the police, which led to the arrest of the six who are aged between 22 and 27.

"The gang of six was nabbed while escaping from an apartment in Ruaka where they had intended to hit but escaped upon noticing that the owner of the house had gotten wind of their evil plans. 

"Hawk-eyed officers responded to an alert from the would-be victim where they intercepted the thugs' getaway matatu reg no. KAR 921Q and from therein smoked out Morgan Mungai Mburu, Stephen Kamau Njoroge, Alexander Kibogoro Waimaitha, Reinhard Mwangi Ngumba, Erick Mwiru and Gregory Nganga all aged between 22-27 years," the police stated.

Items recovered from the suspects.

The police added that upon searching the suspects, several items, including two toy pistols, were recovered.

"Upon conducting a search, the officers recovered two toy pistols, six pocket phones, and housebreaking implements, among other items," said the police.

The suspects were taken into custody pending arraignment as further investigation into the incident got underway.
