Raila Odinga has disclosed his academic and professional credentials as he aims to become the next African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.
The former Prime Minister holds a Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering, Production Technology) from Magdeburg Technical School & Otto-Von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany.
He also has a Certificate in Senior Management from the Kenya Institute of Management, a Certificate in Standardization and Quality Control from the University of Denver, and a Certificate in Establishment of Natural Physical Standards from the National Bureau of Standards & Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland, US.
Odinga additionally boats a Certificate in Standards Specification Writing from the British Standards Institution (BSI Group).
The ODM leader has also been awarded a Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) from Maseno University, an Honorary Doctorate from Florida Agricultural Mechanical University, USA, and a Doctor of Laws, (LLD) (Honoris Causa), from the University of Nairobi.

Odinga also has a Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa) from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science & Technology and a Doctorate of Leadership in Social Development (Honoris Causa) from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Malaysia.
The Kenyan opposition leader further has the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) award, the Greater Good Award, The Golden Jubilee Award, and the BEFFTA Award for Global Leadership.
Odinga has authored two publications, The Quest For Nationhood: Roadmap To Our Future and Raila Odinga: The Flame Of Freedom.
He served as a Member of Parliament for 20 years before becoming a Prime Minister and later served as the AU's High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.
In his AUC chairmanship manifesto, Odinga has formulated eight priorities and strategies to address the continent's most pressing challenges.
The strategies include; economic transformation, enhancing intra-African trade, financial independence, gender equity and equality, agricultural transformation, climate action, continental integration, and peace and security.
In the manifesto, the Azimio leader points out that he has envisioned a united Africa characterized by peace, prosperity, and sustainable progress for all.
“We must harness our vast human and natural resources, and integrate the energy of our youth with the vision and wisdom of our leaders. As a lifelong Pan-Africanist, I will offer participatory leadership to ensure delivery on the priorities of the African peoples as envisioned in the African Union Agenda 2063,” Odinga remarks.
On July 29 Kenya officially submitted Odinga’s bid to become the next AUC chairperson. The documentation was submitted to the Dean of Eastern Region, Dharmraj Busgeeth.
President William Ruto is expected to launch Odinga’s AUC candidacy on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
