Munyua died on Friday evening while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Lamu County Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua is dead. 

Munyua succumbed on Friday, September 6 at around 6 p.m. while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

The family however did not disclose the illness that led to the death of the Lamu Deputy Governor.

President William Ruto has mourned Munyua as a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the people of Lamu County. 

“I am saddened by the news of the passing away of the Deputy Governor of Lamu County Raphael Munyua Ndung’u.

“He was a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the people of Lamu. Our love and prayers to the family, friends, and the people of Lamu County at this sad moment. Rest In Peace,” Ruto stated.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua eulogized the Lamu Deputy governor as a dedicated and well-oriented person who served people with dedication and professionalism.

“It is with profound sadness that I have received the news of the passing on of Lamu County Deputy Governor, Raphael Munyua Ndung'u. A highly dedicated, development-oriented person, DG Munyua served the People of Lamu with utmost dedication, diligence, and professionalism,” said Gachagua.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on his part said Munyua was a shining example of servant leadership and was known for his dedication, and selflessness in public service.

“I am deeply saddened by the untimely passing of the Deputy Governor of Lamu County, Hon. Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, Governor Issa Timamy, and the people of Lamu County, for this profound loss,” Mudavadi eulogized.

Munyua ascended to the Lamu Deputy Governor role after successfully running on a joint ticket with Governor Issa Timamy during the 2022 general elections.
