Mwaura detailed that 112,405 units were under construction, some already complete.


The government has announced plans to fasten the construction of affordable houses, which President William Ruto initiated.

In a statement dated Friday, September 13, Government Spokesperson Issac Mwaura revealed that the Ruto administration was keen on delivering more units to Kenyans.

On the other hand, the spokesperson detailed that the government would also be working on ways of offering affordable mortgages to Kenyans to ensure that the uptake of the houses also increases.

"Going forward, we aim to increase the pace of construction to deliver even more housing units across the country," he revealed.

"Our focus will also be on expanding affordable mortgage financing to empower more Kenyans to own homes. The Government will integrate green building practices to ensure sustainable development.

Further, it was detailed that the new technology such as climate change construction would be adopted in the undertaking of the projects across the country.

Since his election in August 2022, the President has been keen on undertaking affordable houses across the country to also create job opportunities.

According to the government, more than 160,000 Kenyans have been employed through the programme.

Additionally, 213 Jiua Kali artisans have been certified through a prior learning programme that was launched by the government.
